Western Mass-based singer/songwriter Lexi Weege grew up in a traveling Cabaret troupe, and she’s been on the move ever since. After years of touring and three full-length releases with her band Weege & The Wondertwins, Lexi released her third solo album in 2022. Combining the best of classic country, Motown, and soul, WEEGE’s original songs are full of spirit.
Whether crooning a heartbroken ballad or belting out the blues, Lexi Weege’s dexterous voice is at the heart of it all. Her acrobatic vocals soar high and plunge low, tugging at your heartstrings. Expect to dance, and maybe shed a bittersweet tear, too. Weege is a gifted storyteller.
UMass alum J J Slater is a born and bred New Englander, and so naturally has a sound for every season. Songs evoke blankets of wintry whispering just as much as pulsing, hypnotic summer grooves, at times overlapping to create textures that seem stuck out of space and time. Slater tuned a piano at Sleeper Cave Records, which led to a bit of studio time, which led to a lot of studio time, and eventually settled as two EPs. Many of the songs were started in 2018, deep in the woods of Goshen, MA, by a river where he would practice his instruments for hours (and sometimes crash for the night). The sighing harmoniums, birdsong guitar shimmers, and trickling pianos that overlay what started as a “busking set-up” EP seem to paint a picture of this sanctuary.
Slater is no stranger to live performance, having performed around the East Coast as a psych rock bard with Humble Digs and jazz-funk up-setters Organ Transplant.
